The Ketchikan Gateway Borough Assembly kicks off its annual two-day policy work session on Friday, starting at 9 a.m.

The agenda calls for assembly members to discuss overall guidelines for the Fiscal Year 2019 budget, a strategic plan, capital improvement planning, and land sales and development.

Also on the agenda for Friday is a request from the City of Saxman for a designated percentage of the borough’s state cruise passenger head tax funds.

The state collects those head taxes, then distributes a portion of them to communities affected by cruise traffic. The funds must be used for projects related to tourism. Saxman receives a significant number of tourists each year who want to see the totem park.

The Saturday work session also starts at 9 a.m. It’s dedicated to borough funding for the Ketchikan Gateway Borough School District.

The policy work sessions will be in Borough Assembly chambers at the White Cliff building, with time for public comment at the start of the meetings. The meetings also will be streamed on the borough’s website.
