This follow up from Dorendorf – “I had not heard of the success rate of using moth balls or ammonia as a deterrent, but after digging a bit and talking with my co-workers it sounds like these methods are not effective for deterring bears. They may momentarily balk at the smell, but if an attractant is available they will go for it.”
