A 74-year-old California man reported overdue Tuesday from a fishing trip on Prince of Wales Island was found the next morning.

According to the Alaska State Troopers online dispatch, at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, a caller reported the man had not yet returned from a fishing trip to the Eagle Creek area near Coffman Cove. The man was not equipped for an overnight stay, according to Troopers.

Searchers found the man’s vehicle and continued looking throughout the night. At first light on Wednesday, the U.S. Coast Guard was notified and sent a helicopter from Juneau to assist.

Additional search teams on Prince of Wales Island also were notified. At approximately 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, a search team found the man. Troopers say he was wet and cold, but otherwise OK.
