A hiker was rescued near George Inlet outside Ketchikan on Tuesday afternoon. Alaska State Troopers were contacted by 38-year-old Michael Sherzdian just before 4 p.m. who reported he had fallen down a steep embankment near water and injured himself.

The U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene at around 4:30 p.m. with the South Tongass Fire Department. State Troopers and members of the North Tongass Fire Department responded in a patrol boat shortly after. All parties worked together to extract Sherzdian in stable condition and put him on the Coast Guard boat.

At around 6:20 p.m., the Coast Guard crew transferred Sherzdian to Emergency Medical Services at Bar Harbor. He was then transported to PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center.
