A 78-year-old Ketchikan man died in a car crash Saturday on North Tongass Highway. According to Alaska State Troopers, John Olson was driving southbound just after 3 p.m. when his car veered off the road near South Point Higgins. Both North Tongass EMS and State Troopers responded to the scene.
Olson, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken to the PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center where he died of injuries a few hours later. He was believed to have been wearing a seatbelt.
Olson’s next of kin were at the hospital when he died. His remains are being transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
