A 37-year-old Coffman Cove resident faces multiple charges of raping an underage girl.

According to the complaint filed in court by Trooper Brian Hibbs, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a domestic assault in Coffman Cove late on Dec. 15. They responded and were told by a 16-year-old girl that Walter Brian Carter had punched her in the face.

The girl also told troopers that Carter had been repeatedly physically and sexually abusing her. The victim was taken to the Alicia Roberts Medical Clinic in Klawock for treatment, and for a sexual abuse exam. The exam showed injuries consistent with the girl’s statement, according to the court complaint.

Carter was indicted by a Prince of Wales Grand Jury on Thursday on four counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor, and one count of fourth-degree domestic assault.

He was arraigned Friday at the Prince of Wales Courthouse. Bail was set at $100,000. If bail is posted, Carter must appear again in court to consider conditions of release.

Carter’s next scheduled hearing is 9 a.m. Monday.
