Alaska State Troopers are warning of a new scam recently reported by a Prince of Wales Island resident.

According to the online Troopers dispatch report, the POW man said he got a call from someone who said they were from the federal Drug Enforcement Agency.

The caller asked for extensive personal information, including Social Security number, date of birth, address, and banking information. The caller also asked for $1,500 sent via Western Union to Florida.

The victim reported he had provided the information and sent the money. While reporting the scam to Troopers, the victim received another call requesting more funds.

People are encouraged to report suspicious phone calls before providing any personal information or sending any funds.
