Authorities in the Prince of Wales Island community of Craig are calling on residents to shelter in place due to concerns about the coronavirus.

The Craig City Council passed the “stay in place” advisory alongside a disaster emergency declaration Tuesday. Officials urge residents to work from home if possible and to stay away from the grocery store if not feeling well.

The council also declared playground equipment at Craig’s public parks off-limits in an effort to slow the virus’s spread.

The Craig Emergency Operations Center also urges people traveling to the island to self-quarantine for 14 days.

Officials say the Craig City Council will revisit the advisory in mid-April. As of Wednesday afternoon, authorities hadn’t announced any cases of COVID-19 on Prince of Wales Island.
