There are no reported injuries after a small explosion at the Klawock Alaska Commercial Company grocery store this morning. The Klawock Volunteer Fire Department responded to the event at around 5:30 a.m.
Fire chief John Wylie told KRBD they received a report of an explosion on the second floor of the store and smoke in the produce department. Wylie estimates they were on scene within 15 minutes.
There were reportedly only a few employees working at the time and they had all evacuated by the time the fire department arrived. Wylie said there was some visible damage to the floor.
Wylie said it’s still unclear exactly what happened, but they did find an issue in the cooling system line. The store opened four hours late but is expected to be open normal hours the rest of the day.
