There are few places on Prince of Wales Island to learn the ins and outs of construction work, but a new high school class is looking to change that. It’s the start of one school district’s push to bring back the island’s career and technical education programming.

There are over a thousand manmade stream crossings in the Tongass National Forest that aren’t up to standard. But on Prince of Wales Island, an environmental nonprofit is replacing a handful of these structures with fish-friendly culverts. 

The small community on Prince of Wales Island was without running water for over a week.
