Turnbull hired as the new KRBD general manager

The new KRBD General Manager is a familiar face at the radio station. The radio station’s Board of Directors has hired Deb Turnbull to take the job recently vacated by Nathan Grambau.

Old hospital, new contract on City Council agenda

The Ketchikan City Council meets Thursday night, and will consider moving forward with plans to demolish the old hospital, also called Bawden Street Apartments.

Ketchikan’s new downtown fire station has been operating since May, but the dedication ceremony was Tuesday. Sen. Bert Stedman was on hand to help uncouple the fire hose, a substitute for the traditional ribbon-cutting.

Experts: Testing algae blooms not good science

Experts pretty much agree with the overall message of a recent warning from the state Department of Health and Social Services: Don’t eat personally harvested shellfish, ever. The science methods cited by the state, however, have raised the eyebrows of a couple of aquaculture researchers. They say high toxin levels in algae blooms don’t necessarily mean poisonous shellfish.
