Teen killed in Port Protection ATV crash

A 17-year-old Port Protection girl was killed Thursday in an ATV accident near that community. Alaska State Troopers report that Paulette James was operating a “dune buggy” style ATV, when it rolled over into a 25 foot embankment with two people on board.

Gravina study: Bridges more now, less over time

Options for bridges and ferries are in the newest Gravina Access study released Friday by the state Department of Transportation, with up-front construction costs ranging from $23 million for the cheapest ferry option, to $276 million for the most expensive bridge plan.

Council OKS $43M hospital bond proposition

The Ketchikan City Council voted unanimously Thursday to place a $43 million bond question on the Oct. 1 ballot. The funding, if approved by city voters, would go toward the first phase of improvements at the city-owned hospital building.
