The Ketchikan School Board on Wednesday ratified a three-year union contract with district teachers, and appointed Susan Pickrell to fill a vacant board seat.

The annual Prince of Wales Island “Putting Up POW Grub” event is set for Friday in Hydaburg and Saturday in Klawock.

Ketchikan Indian Community has donated more than 100 computers for the local Alaska Native Brotherhood/Alaska Native Sisterhood to refurbish and distribute to people in the community.

Former U.S. Senator and Alaska Gov. Frank Murkowski visited Ketchikan Wednesday, and spoke at the Greater Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce luncheon about a proposed tunnel to link the larger community of Ketchikan to the airport on Gravina Island.

The Ketchikan School Board on Wednesday will decide whether to approve a new teachers’ contract with the Ketchikan Education Association, and will interview three candidates for a vacant board seat.
